She's back in a new sci-fi movie.

Katee sackhoff talks to topix about '2036 origin unknown,' 'battlestar galactica' and being a sci-fi goddess. Katee Sackhoff is best known for playing Lieutenant Kara "Starbuck" Thrace -- a role that was originally played by a man -- on the TV reboot of Battlestar Galactica. She imbued the character with so much strength that Starbuck became one of the most iconic sci-fi heroines in history. Sackhoff has starred in several other sci-fi projects, including Riddick opposite Vin Diesel. In the movie 2036 Origin Unknown, Sackhoff plays an old-school mission controller who is forced to work with a superintelligent AI as they investigate the disappearance of a manned mission to Mars and a mysterious cube on the red planet's surface that could alter the course of humanity. The movie is in select theaters and VOD on June 8, 2018.

We caught up with the affable Saturn Award-winning actress from Oregon and talked to her about the enduring appeal of Battlestar Galactica, what she thinks ultimately became of Starbuck, if she'd take a one-way trip to Mars, and if there is any possibility of her and boyfriend Karl Urban working together in a future project. Also, we couldn't chat with a sci-fi goddess such as Sackhoff and not ask her the most important question: Are we alone in the universe? Start Slideshow
