That can't be her!The 1960s were an exciting time filled with social change, political turmoil, and a space race that resulted in the U.S. putting men on the moon before the end of the decade. People like Martin Luther King Jr., President John F. Kennedy, Angela Davis, Hugh Hefner and more fought for real changes in our society. As the Vietnam War dragged on, a vibrant counterculture emerged that was opposed to the conflict. "Make love not war" became the mantra of the burgeoning hippie movement, which reached it peak during the three-day Woodstock Festival in 1969.
The entertainers of this era were equally as vibrant. The British Invasion happened in America, introducing a generation of screaming young fans to the likes of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Who and many more bands from across the pond. Jane Fonda appeared in the sci-fi adventure 'Barbarella' and was also an outspoken advocate for peace. Sonny and Cher's duet "I Got You Babe" became an anthem of sorts for counterculture types with "hair too long." 'Star Trek' launched a franchise that still exists to this day.
There was also a dark side to the 1960s, including the untimely deaths of key political figures such as John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy, as well as Charles Manson and his family of degenerates who terrorized the populace.
